To underscore just how important GPS enabled vehicle tracking and using a very good system is important to the construction and landscaping industries, recently a boom truck stolen from Bonnyville, Alberta, 2.5 hours northeast of Edmonton was recovered in Whitecourt, Alberta, approximately 2 hours northwest of Edmonton, a trip that would approximately be 450 kilometers. The RCMP credited the use of a GPS enabled tracking device for making the recovery possible (disclaimer: we do not know whose device it was).
Why GPS Tracking Matters in the Construction Industry
Fleeteye’s covertly hidden, hardwired vehicle / equipment tracking devices, also have a battery backup and our system updates every 60 seconds. Because the customer was able to provide the police with information about the route the thief was taking, they were able to lay in wait and arrest the thief, while recovering the boom truck.
Key Features With Fleeteye Tracking System
Here are some other things to consider about utilizing a Fleeteye tracking system and depending on your needs our hardwired dash cameras as well.
*You can immobilize your equipment, remotely when it is not in use and in some cases left onsite.
*You can set the hours of operation and receive alerts on your phone app, when the equipment is moving outside of normal operating hours.
*You can establish Points of Interest and set alerts whenever a piece of equipment moves outside of the boundaries you have established. For instance, if your equipment is going to be on a particular jobsite for a lengthy period of time and all of a sudden you get an alert that says it is now 5 kilometers down the road, that is not a good sign.
*If you are wanting to track how often and for how long a blade or salter may be operating during snow removal, you can utilize our PTO (Power Take Off) tool. Many companies factor this into their invoices, as it reflects hours of operation and a report can be sent to your customer.
Which Equipment Types Benefit The Most From Tracking?
Who are good candidates to use this feature:
- Dump trucks
- Mixers
- Boom trucks / Bucket Trucks
- Trucks with compactors

Maintenance of Equipment
During heavy use over a prolonged period of time there is a lot of wear and tear on your equipment. Our PTO tracking feature is one way you can be assured that your equipment is being serviced in a timely fashion. Another way is through tracking the overall hours of operation and receiving an alert through the Fleeteye system.
